SeaTac ZIP Areas at a Glance
Five postal areas appear across the SeaTac portion of the official King County West ZIP map. A sixth number appears in Census geography, but that does not make it a normal SeaTac delivery ZIP. Postal routes, incorporated limits, and Census tabulation areas answer different questions. Treat each number as a way to narrow an address, not as proof that a named person lives inside SeaTac.
| ZIP | SeaTac-area coverage | Postal place context | Research note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 98148 | West and southwest area | Burien or SeaTac labels may appear | Verify the exact address |
| 98158 | Airport and nearby sites | Strong airport association | Not a citywide residential boundary |
| 98168 | North SeaTac and Tukwila area | Shared postal geography | Parcel location controls |
| 98188 | Many civic and central sites | Shared with Tukwila | Includes the City Hall ZIP |
| 98198 | Southern SeaTac and Des Moines area | Shared or adjacent labels | Check USPS by address |
| 98032 | Census association only | ZCTA, not confirmed delivery ZIP | Do not make a postal claim |
The King County West ZIP map gives the best area view. USPS gives the delivery result for one address. King County parcel tools then answer whether the site is physically in SeaTac. Those layers can disagree without any source being wrong.
Use the table as an index to questions, not as a resident count. For 98158, ask whether the record concerns the airport. For 98168 or 98188, test the city line. For 98148 or 98198, confirm the preferred postal city and the parcel jurisdiction. A 98032 reference calls for checking the Census source before drawing any postal conclusion. This keeps every ZIP code tied to the type of map or database that supplied it.
SeaTac ZIP 98158 and SEA
ZIP 98158 is the clearest local example of a postal number shaped by a major institution. The Port of Seattle lists Seattle-Tacoma International Airport at 17801 International Boulevard, SeaTac, WA 98158. That makes the number a sound airport address anchor. It does not mean every point in the ZIP is a household, nor does it turn the ZIP polygon into the city boundary.
Airport-area names also surface in Port records, transportation plans, permits, public notices, and business filings. A person associated with one of those records may be a contractor, witness, or public participant rather than a resident. Keep the record's stated role and date. Then use an address-based public record only when a lawful personal search needs a residence check.
Airport clue. A 98158 result establishes postal context for SEA, not occupancy at a nearby SeaTac address.
Find SeaTac Residents Within a ZIP
A ZIP code directory narrows a large search, but no inspected county property page offered a simple public ZIP filter. Work from the postal layer toward the address layer. Keep the original value from each source so later differences remain visible.
- Enter the complete address in the USPS ZIP Code Lookup. Record the five-digit ZIP and preferred city exactly as returned.
- Compare that result with the source document. Do not replace a Burien, Tukwila, Des Moines, or Seattle label merely because SeaTac seems more current.
- Search the address in King County eReal or the parcel viewer. Confirm the parcel's site address, jurisdiction, and legal description.
- Once the parcel is verified, narrow the task to the street and address. The SeaTac street directory explains the full address-keyed path.
- For a person, verify only the minimum public facts needed and note the record date. A ZIP match alone never confirms identity or current occupancy.
This process also works in reverse. A directory or public record may supply a ZIP but omit the municipality. The county parcel can tie the street line to a physical jurisdiction, while USPS identifies the mailing convention.
SeaTac ZIP Search Fields
The useful ZIP tools divide into postal and parcel searches. USPS accepts an address or a city-and-state query. King County's assessor and map tools begin with an address or parcel, not a ZIP. The distinction prevents a contact ZIP on a request form from being mistaken for a public-record filter.
| Tool | Search choice | Useful input | What it can establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| USPS ZIP Lookup | By Address | Street, city, state | Delivery ZIP and preferred city |
| USPS ZIP Lookup | By City and State | City and state | ZIPs tied to the postal place |
| USPS ZIP Lookup | Cities by ZIP | Five-digit ZIP | Postal city relationship |
| King County eReal | Property lookup | Address, parcel, owner or tax account | Situs and assessor jurisdiction |
| Parcel Viewer | Map search | Address, parcel, condo name | Physical parcel and nearby geography |
The inspected voter-file application includes the requester's ZIP, but that field describes the applicant. It does not expose a ZIP search of voter rows. Avoid claiming a filter that the official interface did not show.

The image reinforces the correct handoff: move from a postal ZIP to an address or parcel search, rather than expecting a countywide ZIP resident list.
SeaTac ZIP Codes Versus Limits
Postal routes are made for mail delivery. Incorporated limits decide which city government serves a site. Census ZCTAs approximate ZIP-like areas for statistics. Carrier routes organize delivery work. None of these layers should be used as a substitute for the others.
- ZIP code
- A five-digit USPS routing code. It does not define a city boundary.
- ZIP+4
- A more precise delivery code that may identify a segment, building, or group of boxes.
- PO-box ZIP
- A ZIP used for post-office boxes rather than a map of homes.
- Unique ZIP
- A code assigned around one large institution or recipient.
- Carrier route
- A delivery path within a ZIP, not a municipal district.
Census materials associate ZCTA 98032 with a SeaTac profile. That statistical relationship is not proof that 98032 is a routine SeaTac mailing ZIP. This SeaTac ZIP code directory therefore labels it separately and preserves the source type.
Historical SeaTac ZIP Address Clues
SeaTac formally became a city in 1990. Earlier records may be cataloged under Highline, Angle Lake, Bow Lake, McMicken Heights, Riverton Heights, Sunnydale, a rural route, or a nearby postal place. International Boulevard may also appear as Highway 99. A modern ZIP search can fail when the old source never used today's city name.
Preserve the printed street, route, community, postal city, and ZIP exactly. Then add a separate modern interpretation with its source and date. For material from before ZIP adoption, lead with the street, legal description, township and range, or predecessor community. Do not invent a ZIP+4 or backfill today's five-digit code into an old directory entry.
The strongest archive query includes surname, approximate year, both road names, and the likely Highline community. This keeps the historical fact separate from a present-day geocode.
Build a SeaTac ZIP Address Key
A clean address key makes conflicting labels manageable. Record the house number, directional prefix, street name, suffix, unit, postal city, state, five-digit ZIP, municipality, parcel number, and legal description. Add the historical community and date when the source is old.
| Source label | Copy the address exactly as printed |
|---|---|
| Postal finding | USPS city, ZIP, and ZIP+4 only if returned |
| Physical finding | County situs, parcel, and jurisdiction |
| Historic finding | Old road or community name with date |
| Confidence | Confirmed, probable, or unresolved |
Missing data should remain unknown. A transparent gap is more useful than a confident guess, especially near the airport and shared postal boundaries.
Date the address key each time it is checked. USPS results, assessment labels, and map layers can change on different schedules. Save the document's own date separately from the lookup date. If a public record has no ZIP, do not add one unless a second cited source supports the match. For a historic directory, the original address form should remain the primary transcription even after a modern parcel has been identified.
When sharing a finding with family or an archive, include both labels and a short source note. That lets another person repeat the SeaTac ZIP code check without treating a postal convention as a city-limit decision.
Boundary check. A ZIP code can narrow lawful personal research, but it cannot prove identity, residence, or a person's current location.
